A Squirrel and a Freebie

Well, I got the squirrel portrait done last night. It is a watercolor with pen & ink accents to show the fur. I'm quite pleased at how well he/she turned out.

Today's freebie is the next next color element set.

You can download it here.

New sketch

I wanted to share a NEW piece I just finished this evening. On a group I'm in on Yahoo - Rat Lovers United - one of our members posted a wonderful picture of a squirrel in her backyard. Shari gave me permission to do a painting from her picture. This is a preliminary/practice drawing

More Everyday Matters

Here's my next installment of my past watercolors. The old building is actually a pen & ink with watercolor washes. Pen & ink is my second favorite medium to use. I think I am a 'penaholic' - I can't seem to NOT buy an ink pen or a new ink if I have the money.

Thursday, June 26, 2008

I just joined a group called Everyday Matters and we share our artwork with each other and everyone else on our blogs (if we have them). I wanted to start off with some of my past work in watercolors. Watercolor is my FAVORITE painting medium to use. It can be delicate or intense, depending on how you apply it. It forces me to be a bit looser than other art media. so, enjoy these first pieces from my archives.....

Art Paper Doll

I found a neat paper doll template on the web at http://www.dollstreetdreamers.com/back_alley_articles/shashi_paper_doll.htm .

I printed it up and then transferred the pieces to a piece of comic book backing board. This is an acid-free heavy card stock with two different textures (I love it for many paper crafts).

1. I covered each piece with paper. I used pink parchment for her skin and floral paper for her dress.

2. After stamping her face, I drew in details such as fingers and toes.

3. I used an anywhere punch to make all connection holes.

4. The arm segments were attached with mini brads and the head, dress pieces and legs were connected with large jump rings.

5. I pulled the legs off a loop brad and glued it onto the back of the head with E-6000 and tied a fibre in it for a hanger.

6. I glued a piece of fancy fibre on her head for hair and let it all dry.

I plan on making several of these as holiday decorations. I think the whole project took a couple of hours. Try one yourself and have fun!

Two Freebies

Nothing really going on my neck of the woods, other than daily rain and moderate flooding. Nothing as bad as in Iowa, but bad enough. I feel I should grow gills. How do they do it in Seattle???

I've got two signature tag freebies for you today. The first one is a blank tage that just needs your name and/or message.

You can download the tag here.

The second freebie is a kit for you to make your own sigs with. It is based off my DSO Color Challenge Kit offered previously, but in smaller dimensions and the addition of two extra images.

You can download the kit here.

Hot Dog!

I don't normally do this, but I have GOT to share a hint on food......

I have a bus driver who is from New York City. The other day we were discussing the various brands of hot dogs. He was talking about the brand they sell in the stands all around the city. Since we can't get that brand in this part of the country. He had said that Nathan's were a close second. Now, here in Tulsa, Nathan's are a very pricy hot dog at around $3.50 -$4.00 a package. Needless to say, at that price I'd never bought them. so today, they were on sale and acting on this New Yorker's suggestion I bought a package. OMG! They are awesome!! If hot dogs were steaks, Nathan's would be the ribeye. Go out - buy a pack, grill or fry (don't boil), add sauerkraut, raw onion, mustard and cheese on a bun and enjoy!

My freebie today is a Sig Tag kit version of my scrapbooking kit with a few differences. Have fun with this kit.

You can download this kit here.

Everything is stormy and wet - in otherwords, normal. It's supposed to dry out soon, but that will mean heat. At least the mildew will dry up and I can breathe again. A viscious circle.

I want to thank Nicole Lee for the WONDERFUL job she did on my new blinkie. Feel free to grab it and show it on your blog or website.

This freebie is the June Fairy. She's dressed in the flowers that are still alive, but also cool for the heat to come.
